Love Locks on fence at Notre Dame

Love Locks on fence at Notre Dame,

As in many cities, it has become a fashionable activity for couples to put a pad lock on a fence (usually on a bridge) and throw away the key as a symbol of everlasting love. Unfortunatly, the weight of all these locks has brought many bridges to the edge of collapse requiring the city to remove the locks. Given the sheer number and difficulty of cutting each one with a bolt cutter it was usually more economical to just replace the fences. with new ones designed with no places to attach such locks.

The Pont de l'Archeveche bridge by Notre Dame in paris was no exception. This is one panel of the removed fencing that they erected near the end of the bridge. (Photo taken 2024)
